The basement named by an asteroid...

Some years ago Little Prince's asteroid B612 landed in a basement in the centre of Athens.As you can imagine this story was covered by grown ups who don't believe in love,beauty and other values that we crazy people and Little Prince still believe.

On of those people, a crazy revolutionary believed the story and decided that the story has to be told.

In the same basement that the asteroid landed she opened her store and there she managed to not only save old treasures but to make new ones with the precious help of her sister.

Those treasures combine the most extraordinary materials that someone can imagine, old beer caps are transformed to rings,pins and necklaces, small Tinkerbell figurines decorate crazy jewellery and as an homage to the old owner of the asteroid "Petit Prince" can be found in lots of pieces.

All of the B612 brand pieces are an amalgamation of all the things that the two sisters Vassiliki and Katina love.Their inspirations could easily be a journey around the world.Mexico, America, England, India are just some of the places that their jewellery are inspired with vintage aesthetic and punk attitude being the common denominators.

So if you are still in Athens and you are in for an eye adventure go down to Psiri and in Iroon square inside an old door and a few stairs down you will find the most cool place to be in a hot day.

P.S Today B612 brand is going to present their new collection "Les culottes de soie veulent des fesses habiles" so grab the chance and don't hesitate to join their party with cool music and mojitos.

When you wanna be abused...be "Abused by Retro"

Some people abuse their clothes with insensitivity and especially their old clothes, but some people find that old clothes need care,love and a new owner.

One of these people decided that vintage is somehow a religion so she opened her little temple dedicated to vintage diamonds, open for everyone that believes that old and vintage pieces deserve a second chance.

About two years ago Tania decided that a small street, Agion Anargiron and particular in number 24, in "Psiri" district is going to roof her love of vintage clothes, a love that since then grows bigger and bigger.Her cosy little shop is full of clothes that have a story to tell, there she welcomes everybody who wants to hear their stories with a big smile.

In her shop boys and girls will find American t-shirts that even old school head-bangers would envy, cowboy shirts that John Wayne would love, Italian jeans like once Italian jeans where made,girly but with an attitude dresses that no one stays unmoved and lots of others pieces that reflect the taste and loves of Tania.

Tips to avoid a heat stroke...

The last days temperature in Athens was intolerable but some people have the answer to your problem.

Tips to stay cool and look cool.

Stay all day long inside and with the first glimpse of the moon

go outside and party all night long.

Drink lots of fluids and eat light meals and especially fruits.

Watermelon is a fruit that will keep you cool since 92% of its weight is water.

Always wear a hat and avoid staying too much in the sun.

Don't forget Mad hatter never had a heat stroke .

Prefer to wear sunglasses, otherwise strike a pose with your eyes half closed or your hair looking mysterious, or rest in someone's shadow.

Avoid black colour.

Recreating poses of old photos might also be helpful since in past years the climate was milder.

Being a man or pretending to be a man is still debatable if it helps in hot weather.

A proof that wearing a hat helps you not only staying cool but also looking cool.

Glitchr: beautiful system errors with a garnish of broken pixels

They describe themselves as a "profesional sports team", and that's the only clue i have about this obscure team who goes by the name Glitchr.

Their Facebook page is a crazy collection of photos with broken pixels,"scratches" and "errors" and believe me is more that funny to see the untouchable, boring Facebook in this mess.For me their work is like a guerrilla visual attack.Even the template of the page is having "scratches" and what is looking like faults of a computer system.After all the name glitch(r) is used as a term for short-lived system errors.

If you try to find something more about them in Google you will get a page with results even more mysterious and more scathed.If you got something more about them contact me, for now feast your eyes on some of their weird photos and don't forget to check out their page.

Radical Chic...or how I learned to love socialism.

In the 60’s and 70’s the group of rich bourgeois that flirted with radical and socialistic theories of the time had the nickname “Radical Chic” or “Champagne Socialists”, as they were named in Great Britain.

Middle and high bourgeois were enchanted by the practices to adopt models of social behaviors, quite heterogeneous between them, that often shocked the conformism which their own class had established.

Extreme political ideas and nonconformism were skirted with an overt love for the latest fashions.In lots of cases the latest fashion was established by and for them.

Of course with all the above they were characterized by an unprecedented willingness to draggle the hem of their Burberry’s trench coats.

So there they were to the May of ’68 in France, supporting Black Panthers and all the Latin American liberation movements but always in style.

But now the distances are restablished. Bourgeois learned again to stay in apathy and their half empty champagne glasses.

Although all these rest in the past we kept all the radical ideas they left behind and a love for their decadence way of living (campy for some others…).

So as hopelessly romantic that we are, we don’t want to remember that time as a whim of the bourgeois but as the days that revolutionaries didn’t belonged to any class and we were protesting together and we were exchanging duffel Casmir coats for Mao collar shirts as an indication of support and appreciation.

Well my name is not Sue, and this post is not about names."My.Name.Is Sue" is the name that Hara Vitalioti, an upcoming Greek designer, gave to her small independent clothing line.Hara's designs are "possessed" by a retro aesthetic and a romantic point of view but the lines are very modern and original and that's what makes them so beautiful.Her new collection has clever cuts and crazy patterns that refer to old-school tattoos and publicities.But except the beautiful appearance of her designs quality is also a characteristic.So, in Hara's credit, we must say that her clothes are one hundred percent hand made, her materials are of very good quality and the most important, as her labels in the clothes say, they are made in heaven.

Baronettes...the Beginning

The term web series is something that is very uncommon, for Greece at least.Well in the case of today's story about "Baronettes", the term web series is not a probationary term.Baronettes, that are described by their creators as "Mini episodes of the exciting life of Beatrice and Savannah Papadopoulos: The True Baronettes!", are more like a spoof of soap operas although some may say that, at least the first video, is some kind of a comment about the apathy of the bourgeoisie and the society in general anyway that's what I get.
To be honest I don't have exact information about the creators or the team behind the series but what I know is that Baronettes are two filthy rich women dressed in the latest fashion living in a extravagant house that has a leopard old-fashioned telephone waiting for something unexpected to happen, and we don't need nothing more to know for watching the series.

Seems like they had their information about Earth's summer.

The Human League of Defence presented their secret weapon

that goes by the code name "The Finger" to the public.

In your faces aliens.

Terrified humans infected by a striped fever, one of the viruses that aliens unleashed upon us.

The best way to run from them into the jammed roads of the cities.

Running in panic and yet so stylish.

In human temples all over the world

priestesses performed a sacred dance for the salvation of human race.

In the camp of the human forces the printed armour was the best way to attend the war.

When the pink gasses were released not even the shelters could save us.

Rock bands form a coalition to jam alien communications with their music.

And when everything was lost and the last city standing was ready to fall in alien hands the Super Smoking Girl appeared and save the day with a puff of her atomic cigarettes.

Of course is always a matter of personal style but i always thought that women and men that wear hats are so stylish.I am not talking about Ascot hats but a panama or another kind of every day hat.As an alternative headpieces are in the same category of mine, they give a vintage essence and i believe are the best way to look eccentrically chic.

This days, to be honest from the first time i saw them, i fell in love with Vasiliki Sirma's headpieces.Vasiliki is a costume designer who studied at London College of fashion, but her big love are hats and headpieces that have a vintage aesthetic with a cool modern twist.She prefers big theatrical pieces but she doesn't let down low profilers.Her references are so many and in her head pieces you can identify a pin-up girl, a lady of the 50's, a cool girl in Paris or a hipster in London and of course YOU.I wish she could expand her collections in men's hats because i am waiting like a kid waits his candy.

So don't be modest, this summer is the best way to be brave and wear something that is going to give you the wow!!! factor.

Verevine...a brand from the "New York of the East"

Some refer to Istanbul as the "New York of the East".Some may say that this nickname is an exaggeration.What i know, althought never been there, is that Istanbul is a vibrant city with new ideas, multicultural and a hub of artistic expression, after all the city was always a cultural epicentre for many civilizations.Art, design, music and fashion are in an orgasm of creation and those reasons are enough for putting Istanbul in the list of the cities that are going to be the new global centres.

But since our favourite subject (well among others) is fashion, last week a denim brand from there caught my attention in Facebook.Verevine, which is created by two talented designers Mehmet Reha Baran and Sirma Cankaya.

Verevine has nothing to be jealous of other international and bigger brands that design denim wear.Original designs and a special treatment, that creates cool patterns to denim fabrics, are their trademarks. Especially the patterns that they create for their designs are one of the most interesting that i have seen in a long time.

Athens Protest Week: Our trend report

The Hellenic Protest Week ended today with a spectacular show in the central square of Athens "Sintagma" under the art direction of U.R.O (Units for the Reinstatement of Order)
) and Agents Provocateurs(Provokatores) two very important groups of Athen's art and fashion scene.

But in this Hellenic Protest week what drew our attention is not what the designers presented in the venue "Greek Parliament",after all it was the same like other times, cheap designs and awful fabrics but in their credit we must admit that cheap designs are the only designs that Greek costumers can afford, but our attention fell in the outfits of the crowd outside the "Greek Parliament".So here is the trend report from the streets that were flooded by the fashion crowd, red was a very favourite colour and also black the color that never goes out of fashion, military look was the most fashioned style and of course most of the crowd was wearing the it accessory of the month the gas mask.The designers once again let us down by not showing to the closing ceremony and what is the most frustrating is that the crowd was anticipating to see them and congratulate them for doing their best to please them.But words are not enough to describe the event so here are some photos from the street style photographers that were outside the venue.

Navy look is always a very stylish choice and that man owns the style, his bag is so stylish don't you agree?

Two loyal hip boys to the Greek fashion scene in total black outfits and a very unusual accessory.

Liana Kaneli a Greek celebrity choose to make a fashion statement with a make-up that was created by the famous make-up artist Achileas Charitos, the so called "yoghurt is my drug"

As you can see inside the venue all the designers were influenced by Monaco's royal weddings and the "Sartorialist" so they choose the classic 3.000 euro suit.

Boots, although it was hot in Athens, were a dominant choice and particularly those in military lines and style.

Here three trendy men not only choose the military look but they took it a level higher by accessorizing it with helmets and cool shields.

Red was a very stylish choice and combined with jeans was even more stylish.

The closing ceremony didn't failed us at all even fake smoke machines were mobilized to make a non forgettable show.Well done U.R.O for your art direction.

The year is 1985, a year before my birth, although lots of years have gone by, "Ti sento" by Matia Bazar is still one of the best song i have ever heard of course this is just my opinion.The lyrics are dreamy and very sentimental and the voice of Antonella Ruggiero takes you in a journey to emotions and lost worlds, like the lost island of Atlantis that Ruggiero sings about.

"Ti sento" is the best example of the artistic significance of italo disco to electronic music of today and the best way to start your night out.

For some people attending supposed uber cool parties and awards all the time are a way of living because they are celebrities or because they want to be celebrieties at least thats the case in Greece.

Is not that i hate those things its just not my cup of tea.Panic in the doors because anyone wants to be photographed with their favorite celebrity, stupid security guards that think that anyone is a potential threat and

pre-adolescents that scream and push to just smell the air that a celebrity left behind.

That was the case also in the Mad Music Video Awards but with more pre-adolescents, it was so crowed that people were giving away their tickets but in Mad's credit i must say that MMVA are the best awards we have in Greece but we can do better for sure.

After all the walking through the crowd outside the awards we found a spot behind the venue where the awards took place there was the celebrities' entrace and the photographer did an amazing work althought his patience left him hours ago...

But i have to be honest i forgot everything when i start to check everyone's outfit out and with a little gossiping and a beer i stopped bitching and moaning.

A way to hallucinations without LCD

Strange humans from an other world full of psychedelic colours, trippy pictures of a parallel universe where everyday movements are becoming a dance between the real and the unreal.

This is the universe where the visual artist Videogramo from Barcelona is placing his strange humans living their strange life.Videogramo's aesthetics is a blend of old web design and low-fi graphic design from old video games.Videogramo is a shady person so i roamed a lot in the web to find something about him and i stambled on an interview that he gave in "8bit today" magazine.But what really talks better for him is his work, take a look and you'll wonder if you are on LCD or something.

[8bit today] It seems to me, that some elements of your work are inspired by an old computer graphics aesthetics. Am I right? Please, tell me more about your background and inspiration.

[Videogramo] The main inspiration comes from the first generation of graphics on internet where I was working some years ago, Gif format is the best example, translating high-res to low-res formats. The inspiration goes beyond with 8-bit and video computer games, as a graphic designer I’m fascinated for the simplicity of this imaginary.

[8bit today] Sometimes your works looks like a scenes from an another planet. Do you put any story or plot in a picture, or let imagination work by itself to create such bizarre and captivating images?

[Videogramo] There are general ideas like genres in a movie; action, crime, thriller, sci-fi and so on but yes, I let free imagination to work. Some taglines and keywords are used in the sketches like a synopsis for the pictures.

[8bit today] What tools do you usually use?

[Videogramo] Illustration programs such as Illustrator, Freehand, CorelDRAW, and others are used to create vector images. Raster images are edited in image editing programs such as Photoshop, Paint, and Fireworks. There are also touches of Abandonware, from 3D Studio to Deluxe Paint Animator.

[8bit today] Are those graphic works somehow connected to your job, or are you doing this in free time only?

[Videogramo] It’s all in my free time in connection with some works I do together with other artists, most specially with musicians. The fisrt contact with music was Cielo an electronic band from Spain where I did a sketch for a future music video. I have realized other collaborations with bands such Computadora Feliz and Goto80designing logos and art covers.

I was always very fond of old Greek movies there's a magic in them something that I cannot understand or explain.Those movies make me feel nostalgic is a bitter sweet emotion, they are so full of clichés they are so predictable but I still love them. Especially "Crazy family" a comedy with uncommon,for a Greek popular movie of the 60's, surrealistic elements.In the bottom line the movie is the classic story of boy (Alekos Alexandrakis) meets girl, they break up but their love is so strong that overcomes even the craziness of girls family and her owns.With a cast that wrote history in the cinema timeline of Greece Jenny Karezi is the star that shines but this movie is also notable in Greece's cinema because is the first time that costumes and accessories especially those of Karezi are the latest fashion of the 60's and created trends in Greece.So what is not to love in this movie?Crazy situations, a shining cast, Carezi at her best and a wardrobe to die for.

I met Penny some months ago while i was desperately searching for new designers for some photo shootings for my old job.The first thing that made me enter her showroom was the fact that is captivating and so original and every place that has an ancient ironing board in the window display owns my heart.After a small chat i was informed that Penny already had her fashion house but with an other name and after three(or four) successful collection she decided to open her showroom in Gazi(Triptolemou 2-4).

After the fascination that i felt from her store and her succes story i felt an even bigger one, once i saw the clothes.Neutral colors combined with playfull pastels.Romantic and girly lines with a happy rocking attitude and above all a commitment to quality and functionality.

Take a straw to Gazi steal some time and go to Penny's, have a small chat with her and she will be more than happy to help you find the outfit that is going to make you feel unique.After all her spring summer collection is all about unique women that are feminine and fragile but never afraid to try things with a twist.

1st of summer or LAST of spring?

Whatever, the party that was planned, in saturday 14 of may, by art fair «ART-ATHINA», was the «talk of the town» regardless how you counted it, as the first party of summer or the last of spring, and we just couldn't miss it.

We were ready for what to expect already when we were walking to the party but when we saw from faraway those colorful lights we were sure.The music was captivating and it could not be else way because the resident djs of Bar guru Bar are a standard way to make a party going.

And what party the summery weather was an ally and...well you know me,like i know you, give me crazy music,booze,art and a splash of fashion and i won't ask anything else, well at least for the night.

Neutral like a Swiss.

Once upon a time was a little girl named Ines Anais Rain (a.k.a Anna) who went to a big city named London.

She studied there in a magic place called Saint Martins,there she learned how to make words into pictures,pictures that looked pretty and had a voice of their own.

Years passed and ages changed, the girl became a woman,a princess in her own right

and her great love became the jewels and the magic stones .

But a princess needs a palace, a place to put her treasures and the distant city of London had already lots of palaces with treasures within,

so she decided that her beloved Athens,the city where she grew up,

was going to be the place for her palace.

After lots of adventures and hidden paths she found a little street called Karneadou

and there in the number 21 she build her palace, a small palace with gold, silver and precious stones.

Then she decided that all the treasures of her palace have to be shared with others

and just like that she opened her door and she welcomes everyone

that wants to be witched by her jewels and her magic stones.

I arrived fashionably late at Cathreen Mal's show.I ran to my seat and without saying hello to my friends(who were mad because once again i was late)i just sat down and watched the beautifuly executed clothes parading in front of me.

Simple lines,total white dresses and ensembles with some small touches of gold,blue and silver given by the accesories and shoes.The clever find was that the belts were made of rope since the inspiration for the collection was castaway.Although the theme required that the clothes had to be simple and to have a D.I.Y aesthitic the patterns were simple but with a twist avoiding that way the boredom of a plain white dress and executed perfectly.Another find that surpised me was that the purely nautical theme was presented with the total absent of blue(exept the hint in the belts) a really original idea.

In conclusion the collection was made to move down to the streets and Cathreen avoided slopes and chattering and stayed true to her inspiration and vision of simplicity.

I am sure that we are going to see more from Cathreen Mal so fasten your rope-belts.

Africa (second-largest and second most-populous continent) is the cradle of life.

As all anthropologists agree is our home land,the place where first

humans made houses,tools,art and clothes.

Maybe that's the reason why Africa is a constant source of inspiration, especially for summer,it might be

because when designers are tired of roaming around different places for

inspiration even with their imagination what better place to get

inspiration than your birthplace.

In the heat of the sun the Africans know the best way to look cool.

The crazy combined colours,the "naϊve" patterns,the practicality of their clothes but above all the

colourful and full of life eyes and souls of the people of Africa make

their fashion the new scene that media have to start paying

attention.Its not by chance that cool hunters put Africa in the centre of attention for the new decade.

She heard about a strange story,about a famous evil witch living in that old house years and years ago and that her spirit was haunting the place.
She thought this could be a great piece for he column

I don't know why is not a tabou for a girl to wear her boyfriend's jacket,but its wrong for a man to wear his girlfriends jacket or an old vintage woman's jacket.
Back in the 20's-30's women shocked the world with their androgyne style i think in a time very hard for new ideas and creativity its the right time to try new things maybe a man with a woman's jacket or even a man with a woman's neckpiece.
Its not a think about tags such as gay,straight,woman,man its a think about style .
